What is Octoparse, and why use proxies?

Octoparse is a no-code web scraping tool that turns website content into structured data through a visual workflow. Proxies route its requests through different IP addresses, helping reduce IP-based restrictions, access location-specific content, and keep larger extraction tasks running more consistently.

Octoparse offers built-in residential proxies and also supports external HTTP proxies for local runs. The right option depends on whether you prioritise quick setup, cloud compatibility, precise targeting, session control, or visibility into proxy quality

For users who want a browser-based scraping setup with proxies already built in, NodeMaven Scraping Browser is another option to consider. It has no separate usage fee and combines premium NodeMaven proxies, browser automation, managed fingerprints, CAPTCHA handling, ready-made templates, and AI prompts for no-code task creation.

Option 1: How to use Octoparse built-in proxies

Octoparse’s built-in proxies offer the quickest setup and work with both local and cloud runs. They include country or region selection and a configurable rotation interval

Step 1

Enable built-in proxies

Open the task you want to run through proxies. Go to Task Settings > Anti-blocking, enable Access website via proxies, and select Use Octoparse proxies.

Step 2

Choose the location and rotation interval

Select Default for IPs from random countries, or choose an available Country/Region. Set Rotate time, click Save, and run a small test before scaling the task.

Built-in proxies are convenient and compatible with local and cloud runs, but traffic is billed separately. Octoparse currently lists built-in proxy usage at $3/GB and notes that the proxies may not work for every page. Available locations depend on Octoparse’s list; users who need more granular targeting, session control, or IP-quality settings may prefer a dedicated proxy provider, like NodeMaven.

Option 2: How to integrate NodeMaven proxies with Octoparse

Connect premium NodeMaven residential or mobile HTTP proxies to an Octoparse local run. This method uses IP whitelisting because Octoparse does not support username/password authentication for external task proxies

Step 1

Configure and copy a NodeMaven proxy

Octoparse accepts external HTTP proxies only in HOST:PORT format. It does not support proxy authentication with a username and password. Therefore, you must whitelist your computer’s public IPv4 address in NodeMaven before using the proxy in Octoparse.

On the computer where you will run Octoparse, find your current public IPv4 address using a trusted “What is my IP” service.

Sign in to NodeMaven and open Proxy Setup > IP Whitelist. Click Add IP, enter your public IPv4 address, and configure the proxy:

  • Proxy type: Residential or Mobile
  • Location: Select a country, region, city, or ISP when available
  • Session: Rotating for automatic IP changes, or Sticky for a consistent IP
  • Filtering: Select the IP quality option for your workflow
  • Protocol: HTTP
  • Number of proxies: Choose how many endpoints you need

Click Save, then copy the generated endpoint in HOST:PORT format. Use the host and assigned port exactly as displayed. Do not include http://, a username, or a password.

If your computer’s public IP changes, update the whitelisted IP in NodeMaven before running the Octoparse task again.

Step 2

Open the Octoparse proxy settings

Return to the extraction task in Octoparse. Go to Task Settings > Anti-blocking, enable Access website via proxies, select Use my own proxies, and click Configure.

This is the task-level proxy setting used for scraping. Do not use the proxy option on the Octoparse login screen, which applies only to signing in.

Step 3

Add the NodeMaven proxy endpoint

Paste the NodeMaven endpoint in HOST:PORT format. If you generated multiple endpoints, enter them as separate proxies, then confirm the configuration.

Important: Octoparse supports only HTTP external proxies for this workflow. SOCKS5 endpoints and authenticated URLs containing a username and password are not supported.

Step 4

Save and run the task locally

Save the task and start a local run. Octoparse currently limits user-supplied external proxies to local extraction; cloud runs use Octoparse’s built-in proxy options.

Confirm that pages load, the task collects complete records, and location-sensitive content matches the location selected in NodeMaven. Check the run log for proxy errors or repeated blocks before scaling the extraction.

NodeMaven gives local Octoparse tasks more control through country, region, city, and ISP targeting where available, rotating or sticky sessions, and IP Quality Filter settings.

Your NodeMaven proxy is now connected to Octoparse.

Easy integrations across scraping tools

Use NodeMaven proxies with Octoparse and other leading web scraping, browser automation, and data collection tools. Configure location, session, and IP-quality settings once in NodeMaven, then use the connection method supported by each platform

Choose premium proxies for Octoparse workflows

Use NodeMaven when your Octoparse local tasks need more control than a general built-in pool can provide. Select granular locations where available, choose rotating or sticky sessions, and prioritise cleaner IPs with the IP Quality Filter

Frequently asked questions

An Octoparse proxy routes a scraping task through another IP address. Octoparse offers built-in residential proxies and supports external HTTP proxies for local runs.

Open the task, go to Task Settings > Anti-blocking, enable Access website via proxies, and choose either Use Octoparse proxies or Use my own proxies. Configure the location or external endpoint, save the task, and run a small test.

Yes. Octoparse’s built-in residential proxies work with local and cloud runs. Users can select Default or an available country/region and choose a rotation interval. Built-in proxy traffic requires separate account credits.

They are convenient, but usage is billed separately, available targeting depends on Octoparse’s location list, and Octoparse notes that the proxies may not work for every page. A dedicated provider can offer more control over location, sessions, and IP filtering.

For external task proxies, Octoparse accepts HTTP endpoints in HOST:PORT or IP:PORT format. Do not paste a SOCKS5 endpoint or an authenticated URL containing a username and password.

No. Octoparse currently limits user-supplied external proxies to local runs. Use Octoparse’s built-in proxies when the task must run in the Octoparse cloud.

How does proxy rotation work in Octoparse?

With built-in proxies, choose Rotate time in the Octoparse proxy settings. With NodeMaven, select a Rotating session while generating the whitelisted proxy. Choose Sticky when the task needs the same IP for a longer sequence.

Built-in proxies offer the countries or regions listed by Octoparse. NodeMaven supports country, region, city, and ISP targeting where available, giving local runs more granular control.

Run a small local test, confirm that pages load without proxy errors, and check whether location-sensitive content matches the selected region. Review the extraction results and run log before scaling the task.

Confirm that you whitelisted the correct public IPv4 address, selected HTTP, copied the assigned host and port correctly, and are running the task locally. If your ISP changed your public IP, update the whitelist in NodeMaven.

Free proxy lists are often slow, unstable, shared widely, or already blocked. For recurring extraction, a managed residential or mobile proxy service provides more predictable targeting, session control, and IP quality.
