How it works

Three steps to an honest byte count

No setup, no SDK, no browser extension. Just paste your proxy
credentials and get a verifiable measurement in under a minute

1

Enter your proxies

Paste your proxy credentials in host:port or host:port:user:password format, one per line. Both HTTP and SOCKS5 proxies are supported. You can check a single proxy or a list

2

We stream your chosen size

Select the payload size you want to pull, from 1 MB to 500 MB. A single fixed-size file is downloaded through your proxy tunnel. Every byte is counted individually as it arrives

3

Compare the numbers

Copy the output and compare it against the bandwidth consumption your provider reports for the same session. Any gap is unexplained traffic you were charged for

WHY IT MATTERS

Transparent proxy billing? Not all providers deliver it

Many proxy providers round up usage, count protocol overhead and TLS handshakes as metered traffic, or estimate consumption instead of measuring it

Fixed, known payload

Select a preset size: from 10 MB, or 500 MB. Every test run transfers that exact byte count

Credentials stay private

Proxy credentials are used for the duration of the test request only, never stored, logged, or transmitted to third parties

Works with any provider

Test proxies from NodeMaven, Bright Data, Oxylabs, Smartproxy, IPRoyal, or any service that provides an HTTP or SOCKS5 endpoint

Concrete evidence

Every result includes a timestamp, exact byte count, transfer time, and HTTP status

Frequently asked questions

No. Your credentials are used only for the duration of the test request and are never stored, logged, or transmitted to third parties. The measurement runs entirely in your browser and through the proxy tunnel you specify.

You can select any size from 1 MB to 500 MB. For a quick check, 10 MB is enough to get an accurate throughput reading. For billing verification, run the same size you typically use in your workflows: 50 MB or 100 MB gives a more representative comparison with your provider's usage dashboard.

Several factors can cause a discrepancy:

  • Protocol overhead: some providers count TCP/TLS handshake bytes toward your quota
  • Failed requests: some providers charge for traffic on requests that return errors
  • Retransmissions: network retransmissions may be counted by the provider but not received by your client
  • Rounding: some providers round up to the nearest MB or chunk size

If your provider consistently reports 10–20% more bandwidth than the checker measures, you have concrete grounds to request clarification or dispute the billing.

Yes. The checker works with any HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy, including residential, mobile, ISP, and datacenter proxies. For rotating residential proxies, each test run may use a different exit IP. this is normal and does not affect measurement accuracy.

Yes. The tool is free with no usage limits, no account required, and no paywall. NodeMaven built it as a standalone utility, whether or not you use NodeMaven proxies.
